2nd anniversary of the cluster munitions bombing of Lebanon

On 13 August 2006 Israel bombed South Lebanon using cluster munitions and leaving behind around 4 million of unexploded duds. This event pushed the international community to launch a process to ban cluster munitions, which commenced in February 2007 and concluded in May 2008 with an adoption of a new international Convention on Cluster Munitions, which will be open to signature on 3 December 2008.
